5 TIPS FOR LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF WHILE TRAVELING

Every day, I count my lucky stars that I’m able to travel the world and explore new places with my wonderful family. Going on new adventures and seeing every inch of the globe allows you to truly unwind, and gives you the chance to leave your old existence behind for a little while. However, you can often get caught up in the whirlwind of travel, and you forget to take care of yourself. This is how you can change that.

1. Eat the right foods

One of the best reasons to explore the big, wide world is to explore all of the amazing foods on offer. You just want to fill your face with new and exciting dishes, and it can often be hard to turn down the smell of enticing food stalls. However, it’s important to eat the right foods when you’re traveling. Most travelers swear by eating healthy and light meals, rather than stodgy and calorific dishes that could ultimately make you ill. After all, a week in US hospital can cost over $30,000, for example, so you want to avoid this at all costs.

2. Get enough sleep

As you make your way to new destinations, you kinda wish you can stay up all night and explore all of the nooks and crannies of the country, city, or town. In order to take care of yourself while you’re traveling, however, you need to make sure you get enough sleep. Bedding down for the night and catching some Zs is the best way to recharge your batteries, keep you healthy, and give you enough energy for the next day. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll ruin your traveling adventure.

3. Make time for yourself

When you’re traveling with a child, a friend, a family member, or even just a local you met on your travels, it’s easy to put their needs before your own. You want to make a good impression, and although you want to enjoy yourself as much as possible, you also want to ensure them to experience their own whirlwind adventure.

However, putting other people ahead of the game can leave you straggling behind. I’m a firm believer in making time for yourself and giving yourself a few minutes of each day to just do what you want. This keeps your own mental health in tip-top condition.

4. Look after your skin

Your skincare routine often goes out of the window when you board that plane and travel across the globe. After all, you have more important things to be concerned about, right? Well, keeping your skin healthy and happy is actually hugely important. Not only do you need to ensure you’re wearing sunscreen at all times, but you also need to moisturize and keep your skin hydrated. If you don’t do this, you could be putting your health in jeopardy. It doesn’t take long to slap on a layer of sunscreen, and you really won’t regret it.

5. Stay warm and dry

While it’s possible to simply rock up at a hotel or hostel and book a room there and then, this isn’t always possible. This leaves many travelers with no option but to sleep on the beach, out in the cold, or even in the rain. Staying warm and dry is one of the simplest ways to look after yourself while traveling, as it will ensure you do not catch a cold or any other illnesses, and it means you can get a good night’s sleep. So, if you want my advice, you should always make sure you have somewhere to stay and book the place in advance.
